ON WISCONSIN : LIVE : MUSIC & NIGHT LIFE : E-MAIL | PRINT THIS STORY

On Stage: John Stevens
Posted: Aug. 18, 2005
Singing songs from the likes of Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, John Stevens showed reality TV fans that you don't need to rely on modern pop to advance deep into the "American Idol" ranks.

However, after Stevens, 17, was forced to adjust his old-school style to sing songs such as Elton John's "Crocodile Rock," fans either loved or hated the young red-headed crooner in last year's competition.

While Stevens' cool demeanor took him only to sixth place on "Idol," he has resurfaced with his debut album, "Red," allowing him to get back to singing jazzy standards backed by lush orchestration. He will bring his takes on classics like "Come Fly With Me" to the Pabst Theater on Saturday night.

Saturday's concert has been recast as a free show and moved to the theater’s Cudahy Irish Pub. Patrons who purchased a ticket may return it to the point of purchase for a refund. Showtime is 8 p.m.

Hopefully, some of the Milwaukee promotion is reaching the Chicago area, too. With its' size and its' rich jazz history, it would be a great place to promote John.
