Here's an article about John's album in the new issue of the AI magazine, released November 15th.

"I like surprises. I especially like musical surprises. When RED came out, I expected to hear a steady and consistent dose of songs that never wavered from a smooth, relaxing center. While that certainly is the launching pad for anything by John Stevens, he takes us many places that seem beyond the depth and scope of an 18 year old.

John is no ordinary young man. When you hear "I Only Have Eyes for you," "Come Fly With Me," and "The Shadow of Your Smile," You'll know what I mean. These are great romantic melodies, and create a welcome slice against the hip hop and punk grain of our music scene. They also harken the voices of great crooners past, such as Harry Connick Jr, Nat King Cole, and the king of all crooners, Frank Sinatra.

Yes: Stevens is almost good enough to be mentioned in the same breath. He's not there yet, but don't forget, he's still a teenager. John takes an 11-song collection of old and new romantic melodies and re-styles them. He slows down "This Love" and "Someone to Watch Over Me," steps it up with "Don't get around much anymore" and puts everything together in "It had to be you."

I mentioned surprises. Here they are: The cover of the beautiful Beatles REVOLVER song "Here There and Everywhere." and the duet performance of "Let's Fall in Love" with Erika Christensen = yes, the same Erika you saw on screen in SWIMFAN, THE BANGER SISTERS and THE UPSIDE OF ANGER. John and Erika sound like they've sung together for years; their voices blend beautifully. And covering The Beatles is gutsy business, but John certainly chose the right song. The way he honors his musical influences is outstanding.

Now that John has made his mark, I hope we'll get to see him record his own songs. Once he does, expect him to climb further, because his voice will drie itself right into your heart."

Thanks for sharing that Callie. Do you know who wrote the review?

The world really has changed, the music industry is no longer driven by money and connections, it's driven by the mere words of random folks on a free message board. A grave lesson for us all

Thanks for letting us know about the very good (and current) review, Callie.

It made me smile. I hope it has the same effect on everyone who reads it.

I'm listening to "RED" as I type, and no matter what is going on now, or what happens in John's future, we will always have that to listen to.

Does anyone know where you can buy this magazine? Is it available in stores that sell magazines or only by subscription. I have no interest in subscribing, but I'd like this issue.
