Regis and Kelly? Wow, I heard he was going to be on Ellen and Jimmy Kimmel too. And Good Morning America. RCA promotion with all these tv appearances right at the time of the cd release is terrible...don't they know that wristbands and stickers are the way to go with promotion? And releasing the cd before the next season starts? Terrible as well.

LMAO! RCA needs to get with the program here, geeze.... Dont they know that the best promotion is no promotion? Having die hard fans posting on any and every board (promising prizes that NEVER actually are awarded) is a much better scheme. Although mailing out ONE postcard as a promo item was a good stratagy too! hmmm... how about waiting over a year to release the 1st CD! Man these people should really get in touch with Maverick to see how things are suppose to go!!

It feels surreal posting here, it has been so long. Anyway, it seems like with AI5, a lot of these labels smartened up and realized WHAT NOT to do. I think they learned from season 3. Sign the kids fast, strike while the iron is hot. Get their albums out before the next season starts. Keep the signed idols out there, doing stuff in the public eye. I could go on, but it has paid off. Kellie Pickler and Chris have both had outstanding sales. Chris especially. His album had opening sales of over 300,000. That is incredible. It seemed like with AI3 the labels that signed the contestants were just relying on their names alone. Makes you wonder what could have been, but I guess it's all water under the bridge now.

I'm sure Maverick's promotion was used as a case study of what not to do. It's now part of the training now for new hires in record promotion - a course on how NOT to promote if you want results.

aimee, you have a good point though that, as time passes, mistakes can be learned from. S3 was really the first year where record deals became the norm for all Idol contests rather than just for #1 and #2. By now, everyone has to be more savvy.

BTW, Chris's album is great.

It also may have something to do with many of the contestants being older...and wiser??? Some of the people from AI5 have been in the music business trying to catch a break for a long time and know their way around much better than kids who are still in high school.

Snap...I think I should not expect my prize package from Maverick any day now, huh???
