After American Idol, our local news station came on and they had a segment about "Where are they now? American Idol" and they mentioned John having an album out and they were showing a clip of him singing All of Me and I think This Love in that PBS special "Fast Focus" Big Grin He's getting media cover, or at least here Big Grin

I will always love you Traci <3

Hi John; it's Sarah Ann! We met each other in Grand Prairie, Texas & I gave you a red bag full of red candies & gums. And you called me from Donna's cell phone in Philly Big Grin

Big Grin I think they did that on all the fox news because I had it here in Jacksonville too. Any news is great news.

It's here! It's here!

We've dutifully waited for almost nine months for the return of American Idol. We've passed the time by soaking up Dancing With the Stars, but nothing matches the nail-biting drama, the juicy scandals and the pitchy spectrum of musical notes that come with AI.

Pull out the TV trays, friends, because we're in for a long haul, hoping to get a decent bunch of wannabes with Season 5, which begins tonight. Check back here Feb. 21 for our weekly Idol Chatter column, where we will dish about performances, contestants and Paula's dingy one-liners.

Here's an update of our favorite contestants from years past. (Cue montage swan-song music here, please . . . )

Kelly Clarkson: She achieved something difficult for AI contestants: She gained credibility with the disc Breakaway and the surprisingly rocky single Since U Been Gone. And just think, Justin Guarini was thisclose to winning. kelly clarkson.com.

Carrie Underwood: Her debut album, Some Hearts, still has the top spot on the country charts. She won three Billboard Music Awards and is a spokeswoman for Skechers. carrieunderwoodofficial.com.

Clay Aiken: The "Aiken for Clay" frenzy continues. He has two successful discs, Measure of a Man and Merry Christmas With Love. Also on his résumé are a DVD, A Clay Aiken Christmas, and a book, annoyingly titled Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life ($7.99, Fawcett, paperback). clayaiken.com.

Fantasia Barrino: She, too, wrote a book: Life Is Not a Fairy Tale, in which she reveals that she's functionally illiterate. Hmmm. Can you write if you're illiterate? Free Yourself, her debut CD, got a less-than-overwhelming reception. fantasiabarrinoofficial.com.

Ruben Studdard: He has released a couple of albums and still pops up on TV occasionally, but he has been lying low for a while. Recent photos don't show him looking any thinner, either, despite some health scaresrubenstuddard .com.

Bo Bice: Despite his own health problems, his CD The Real Thing opened at No. 4 on the charts last month. His official Web site contains his personal journal, photos, music; however it costs $24.99 a year to join. Apparently, he needs the cash to keep up the fab hairdo. bobice.com.

Constantine Maroulis: His band, Pray for the Soul of Betty, has since released an album, Maroulis has a solo project in the works and an untitled sitcom for ABC. The pouty prince also offered up Bohemian Rhapsody on the disc Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen. constantinemaroulis.com.

John Stevens: The polite redhead with a thing for standards released a disc of 'em called Red on Maverick Records. The kid wound up with a Top 5 hit on the jazz chart, plus a gig at the tony cabaret Feinstein's at the Regency in New York that earned a rave review from showbiz bible Variety. maverick.com/ johnstevens.

Jennifer Hudson: Performed in the Broadway production of Hair and is filming Dreamgirls with Beyoncé and Jamie Foxx. Her Web site says she's working on a solo album. jenniferhudsonmusic.com.

Anwar Robinson: Long hair and an even longer ego, Robinson's post-AI career includes his own convention this April held by his fans, the Anwarriors. Other Idols release albums; he has conventions.

Corey Clark: More famous for claiming he had a fling with AI judge Paula Abdul than anything he did on the show. He went on Primetime Live boasting about the relationship, but Abdul got the last laugh with skits on Saturday Night Live and AI itself. His self-titled debut CD, which included a tune called Paulatics, died quickly. corey clark.com.

CDs by 10 other former AI contenders:
• Diana DeGarmo: Blue Skies (RCA, $18.98).
• Josh Gracin: Josh Gracin (Lyric Street, $18.98).
• Tamyra Gray: Dreamer (19. Records, $18.98).
• RJ Helton: Real Life (Gospocentric, $11.98).
• George Huff: Miracles (World Entertainment, $13.98).
• Kimberley Locke: One Love (Curb Records, $18.98).
• LaToya London: Love and Life (Peak Records, $18.98).
• Carmen Rasmusen: Carmen (R3 Records, $8.98).
• Jasmine Trias: Jasmine Trias (Mountain Apple, $18.98) .
• Jim Verraros: Rollercoaster (Koch Records, $16.98).
