I don't know if this will work or not but I thought I'd try it. These are called "lizard zen" and come from a friend of mine. They star her iguana, Sleestack, and his buddy Flapjack, a bearded dragon. You may have to click the play button more than once to get the individual zens to load & once you've got it all then you have to press play one last time. They're very short!

Smiler Those sure were cute, but I think I'm going to stick with a dog for my next pet. Do those things have teeth?

Both dragons and iguanas have itty-bitty teeth but they are extremely sharp. They lose them and replace them the same way sharks do theirs. Thank goodness their teeth are NOT the same size as sharks though Smiler You may have noticed on the dragon how the underside of his "chin" became black when he was bobbing his head at the iguana. It is because of that chin puffing out and turning black that they are called "bearded" dragons.

Below is a picture of another friend's wrist area after her iguana Felix became annoyed during the spring season when he thought she was going to make him come back inside. He merely snapped at her but made a connection. She was slow that day Frowner

Eewwwwww. Now that looks quite nasty. Have you ever met any of these friends "pets" up close and personal? I found the big dragon one to be particularly scary.

I've been in touch thru the internet with some of my "reptile friends" for ten years. I've never physically met any of them or their pets as most live pretty far from me. We all met thru a reptile message board Smiler

I've got 2 iguanas of my own as well as a fat-tail gecko and a cornsnake. We've had other reptiles in the past including a bearded dragon. These are the kind of "pets" that take research to properly care for and when I first started out the only place to find good information was on the internet. Since then one of the people I corresponded with regulary has written a fantastic book on iguanas. It's called Iguanas for Dummies and was written by Melissa Kaplan. The really cool thing (to me)was that most of the iguanas used for illustration in her book were friends' iggies so I knew most of them Smiler

The one that scared you...was that the one that was walking and licking? If so, that's Sleestack and he's a male iguana and a real sweetie. He and my male iguana are very much alike. Neither of them are anything like what the book will warn you about when it comes to aggression in the males LOL I call my Thunder a "big green puppy." I'll try to see if I can't find some pictures of mine to post up.

The picture below is of Plissken:

The next picture is of Echo, a fat-tailed gecko. She is so sweet and her skin feels velvety to the touch...not what one expects of a reptile Razzer

And the last one is my 10 year old male iguana, Thunder.

When I think of a pet I think of something soft and furry. What drew you to this type of pet? What is the lifespan on an iguana?

You are made of far stronger stuff than I am. I can get along with almost any dog, even the mean ones, but I've just never warmed up to reptiles, amphibians or rodents. I'm bad. I cannot even touch a worm. Frowner

Amen to that one Queen. This has been very interesting, though. I wouldn't get close enough to one to get a really good look like the video shows. Thanks for sharing them with us at this safe distance.

I notice that they are indoors. Do they need a controlled climate? Are they kept indoors because of other preditors outside? I'd be sleeping with one eye open every night. Big Grin

The lifespan of an iguana is about 20 years but that is rare for those in captivity. Our vet was astounded by the age of ours and they took pictures of Thunder LOL The vet said that they had NEVER seen an iguana older than 5 years old because so many people don't provide the proper diet, lighting, etc. etc. so when I came in with a 10 year old they were blown away..then I told them our female is 11 Smiler

We started down this road because of the kids when they were younger Smiler We started small with a lizard one of them caught outside. The common green anole:

From there we went up to the iguana. We eventually branched out as our knowledge and ability increased. In addition to those I've shown already (except our bearded dragon who is deceased), we've had at one time or another ones like those pictured below:

The above is a green amieva aka Jungle Runner. When the light hits them they have brilliant, beautiful colors Smiler

The next is a collared lizard. They, too, have beautiful colors.

The western fence lizard aka blue-belly lizard....you should be able to see part of the belly in this photo and it is indeed blue Razzer

I DON'T do rodents Razzer I do draw the line somewhere LOL I also don't do live food except for meal worms & crickets but you don't have to actually handle those. The snake gets thawed "fuzzies." Iguanas are vegetarians Smiler

I've not had much luck with amphibians Frowner We have had a couple of tree frogs and a White's Tree Frog. White's look like this and yes, they do look like they are smiling!
